President Muhammadu Buhari has approved exemption of telecommunications sector from payment of 5% excise duty earlier approved by the Federal government.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing newsmen in Abuja.<\/p>\n

He said the decision was reached by the Presidential Committee on Excise Duty which relied its report on multiple taxes being paid by the telecoms service providers in the industry.<\/p>\n

In another development, the President has refused to assent to the Constitution Amendment Bill on power to summon the President and state governors<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, who dropped the hint during plenary on Tuesday, lamented the refusal of the President to assent to the constitution alteration bill and 18 others.<\/p>\n

President Buhari had on Friday last week, assented to 16 out of the 35 constitution alteration bills transmitted to him for assent by the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

Informing the Senate in plenary on the presidential action, Lawan said out of the 35 constitution alteration bills forwarded to the President in January only 16 were assented to.<\/p>\n

According to the Senate President, the most striking of the assented 16 bills was the Fifth Alteration Bill Number 6 which makes provisions for financial independence of State Houses of Assembly and Judiciary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
