{"id":257332,"date":"2023-03-22T22:56:47","date_gmt":"2023-03-22T21:56:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=257332"},"modified":"2023-03-22T22:56:47","modified_gmt":"2023-03-22T21:56:47","slug":"senate-confirms-ojukwus-re-appointment-as-nhrc-executive-secretary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/03\/22\/senate-confirms-ojukwus-re-appointment-as-nhrc-executive-secretary\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate confirms Ojukwu\u2019s re-appointment as NHRC Executive Secretary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate has confirmed the re-appointment of Anthony Ojukwu as Executive Secretary of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the confirmation followed the presentation of the report of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters during Wednesday\u2019s plenary.<\/p>\n<p>NAN also reports that the report was presented by Chairman of the committee, Opeyemi Bamidele.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bamidele, in his presentation, said that while the nominee was being screened, there were no reports against him.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cRecord checks and investigation by security agencies did not reveal any negative trace against him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the upper legislative chamber confirmed the appointment of Stanley Lawal as the substantive President of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Customary Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n<p>NAN reports that Mr Lawal had been in acting capacity since October 2022.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the appointment became necessary following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/03\/14\/ayade-lifts-embargo-on-teachers-promotion-extends-retirement-age-by-5-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retirement<\/a> of Abazi Abubakar upon the attainment of the mandatory retirement age of 65.<\/p>\n<p>The committee said that the nominee had met the requirements of the constitution and that no criminal record was found against him after investigations by relevant security agencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate has confirmed the re-appointment of Anthony Ojukwu as Executive Secretary of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
