After receiving an appeal from the parents, the Lagos State government has allowed Chrisland High School, Opebi branch, to open for physical education prior to the school’s upcoming exams.<\/p>\n

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that\u00a0the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, ordered the school to close on March 3, 2023, following the investigation that led to the death of a 12-year-old student, Whitney Adeniran.<\/p>\n

According to Sanwo-Olu, the school’s closure will allow for an unhindered investigation and will give all stakeholders<\/strong><\/a>, including parents, students, staff, and friends of the deceased, time to grieve.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIn view of the circumstances surrounding the death of the child, the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice ordered a coroner\u2019s inquest into the matter to ascertain the cause.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Lagos State University Teaching Hospital conducted the autopsy on February 15.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was conducted by Prof. Sunday Soyemi, Consultant Pathologist, LASUTH in the presence of Dr Samuel Keshinro, Consultant Pathologist, representing the deceased\u2019s family and Dr Olugbenga Oyewole, Consultant Pathologist representing Chrisland Schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe autopsy report, dated March 1, revealed the cause of death as asphyxia and electrocution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice consequently directed that the Directorate of Public Prosecutions issue legal advice on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout prejudice to the criminal proceedings<\/a>, the school will remain shut to further interrogate the endangerment of students and others,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, in a statement on Monday evening announced that the ministry has granted permission for students in terminal classes to access the school branch in Opebi to begin physical learning ahead of their examinations due to begin soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
