{"id":259436,"date":"2023-04-01T04:16:51","date_gmt":"2023-04-01T03:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=259436"},"modified":"2023-04-01T04:16:51","modified_gmt":"2023-04-01T03:16:51","slug":"abuja-man-rejects-bride-price-from-wife-after-divorce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/01\/abuja-man-rejects-bride-price-from-wife-after-divorce\/","title":{"rendered":"Abuja man rejects bride price from wife after divorce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man identified as Yahaya Saleh, has refused to collect the bride price from his wife after divorce in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>A Grade 1 Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, dissolved the marriage between Saleh and his wife, Rabi, and ordered the wife to return the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/01\/20\/gandujes-daughter-vows-to-return-n50000-bride-price-to-end-16-yr-old-marriage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bride price<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, Saleh, who lives in Jedo Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, told the court that he would not collect back the bride price because he had children with his estranged wife.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the marriage was consummated under Islamic Law and was blessed with two children, the first being four years old and the second, two years old.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering judgment earlier, the judge, Saleh Ramat, had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/03\/30\/dont-grant-my-wife-divorce-until-she-swears-before-my-village-deity-man-tells-abuja-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dissolved the marriage<\/a> on the grounds of Saleh\u2019s lack of care for Rabi, adding that the marriage had broken down irretrievably.<\/p>\n<p>Rabbi had, in her petition filed before the court, alleged that her husband had not been taking care of her and their two children throughout their six-year old marriage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy husband does not care about our health. Whenever the children or me are sick, he doesn\u2019t show care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been the one feeding the family, caring for their health and all other needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want the court to dissolve the marriage.
