The coroner in charge of the investigation into the death of a 12-year-old student, Whitney Adeniran, granted permission to the Chrisland school on Tuesday to conduct an independent autopsy on the deceased’s remains.<\/p>\n
The permission was granted by Magistrate Olabisi Fajana while ruling on an application filed by the school to consult an independent pathologist on items obtained from the corpse by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).<\/p>\n
Items requested include the student’s blood and other bodily fluids, a skin sample, slides from which the electrocution diagnosis was made, bone and muscle samples taken from the deceased, and urine samples collected for the autopsy.<\/p>\n
Also, the school further requested all photographs taken during the conduct of the autopsy, copies of all histology slides reported as part of the post mortem examination and other documents made in the course of the autopsy with access to results of all toxicology tests conducted on the late student.<\/p>\n
The Magistrate ordered the chief medical examiner of LASUTH to provide all the items to the applicant\u2019s pathologist\u2019s laboratory on the day of forensic consultation.<\/p>\n
It directed the consultation to be under the supervision of the chief medical examiner of LASUTH and the parents of the deceased.<\/p>\n
Whitney\u2019s parents are expected to testify in the case on the 17th of April.<\/p>\n
