The Senate has adopted the Conference Committee report on the Nigeria Peace Corps (Establishment) Bill, 2023.<\/p>\n

It followed the presentation on Tuesday by the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Interior, Seriake Dickson.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker said both the Senate<\/a> and the House of Representatives committees met and adopted the House\u2019s version.<\/p>\n

The joint committee recommended the green chamber\u2019s version, which retained the \u201cPeace Corps of Nigeria\u201d appellation.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the adopted report was on clause 38 (1) of the Senate version, which was in conflict with the House version under the same clause.<\/p>\n

The Senate\u2019s version seeks dissolution of the existing Peace Corps of Nigeria and National Unity and Peace Corps.<\/p>\n

The House recommended the dissolution of the Peace Corps of Nigeria to be transformed into the Nigerian Peace Corps, when assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n

The report, however, agreed that for a bill to become an act of parliament in Nigeria, it must pass through both National Assembly chambers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
