{"id":261964,"date":"2023-04-12T13:20:11","date_gmt":"2023-04-12T12:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=261964"},"modified":"2023-04-12T13:20:11","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T12:20:11","slug":"why-nigerians-have-become-less-trusting-of-judiciary-ezekwesili","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/12\/why-nigerians-have-become-less-trusting-of-judiciary-ezekwesili\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Nigerians Have Become Less Trusting Of Judiciary \u2013 Ezekwesili"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Obiageli Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, has stated that Nigerians do not trust the judiciary enough as a result of the strange rulings made by the courts in some key election cases.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/05\/peter-obi-nonsense-thoughtless-talk-oby-ezekwesili-blasts-lai-mohammed-over-treason-allegation\/\">Ezekwesili<\/a>, Nigerians&#8217; current demand for accurate and up-to-date information from the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal proceedings is well justified and should be heeded.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the former minister stated in a series of tweets via her verified Twitter handle that Nigerians have a lot of deep lessons to learn from the recently concluded February 25 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/05\/peter-obi-nonsense-thoughtless-talk-oby-ezekwesili-blasts-lai-mohammed-over-treason-allegation\/\">Ezekwesili<\/a> urged Nigeria&#8217;s Chief Justice (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, to advance our public interest and champion live streaming of tribunal hearings.<\/p>\n<p>She did, however, warn that if the country continues to ignore the consequences of bad behavior, it may wake up to terrible news headlines from the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>She wrote;<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>A society that habitually ignores consequences for bad behaviour will wake up to a day when 2 of 3 Presidential Candidates of parties can only generate terrible news headlines from the rest of the world.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There are deep lessons from the #PresidentialElection2023 for Nigerians. I emphatically restate that #JudicialTransparency should be an overarching goal for the Chief Justice of Nigeria, and the Supreme and Appeal Courts on the #PresidentialElection2023 proceedings.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The CJN should advance our public interest and champion Live Broadcast of hearings. Nigerians have become so much less trusting of the Judiciary evidently because of strange rulings made by courts in some key election cases.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>So there is justified demand for the most accurate and current information from the #PresidentialElectionTribunal proceedings.
