On Wednesday, gunmen suspected of being cultists stormed the Ubeta community in Rivers State’s Ahoada West Local Government Area, killing three people and kidnapping two more.<\/p>\n
The attack on Wednesday came just 72 hours after two shop owners, Chimezie Nagbo and his neighbor, were kidnapped in the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n
Chief Million Jonathan, the paramount ruler of the Ubeta community, confirmed the two incidents to PM NEWS over the phone.<\/p>\n
Chief Jonathan revealed that not all three of those killed were cultists.<\/p>\n
He explained that the two shop owners who were kidnapped are neighbors, and that the kidnappers have yet to make contact with the community or family members of their victims as of this morning, Thursday (April 13,2023).<\/p>\n
Chief Jonathan claimed that attacks on community members had been going on for months without the intervention of security agencies or the state government.<\/p>\n
The paramount ruler lamented many inhabitants have fled the community due regular sporadic shootings.<\/p>\n
The Paramount ruler of Ubeta community stated that some of the youths perpetrating the act had earlier denounced Cult activities and had sworn to community oath.<\/p>\n
He added that unfortunately, some of the youths have reneged and went back to their old ways of criminality.<\/p>\n
He maintained that the community is willing to train the warring youths in skill acquisition if they shun criminality.<\/p>\n
He also called on the Government to come to their aid.<\/p>\n
Chief Jonathan also admitted he had not personally reported the latest incidents to the Police.<\/p>\n
But he said he has sent the Chairman of Community Development Committee to file the report with the Police in Port Harcourt.<\/p>\n
However, when contacted, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said no official report has been made to the Police on the incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
