{"id":263065,"date":"2023-04-17T13:10:46","date_gmt":"2023-04-17T12:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=263065"},"modified":"2023-04-17T13:10:46","modified_gmt":"2023-04-17T12:10:46","slug":"one-dies-four-injured-as-truck-and-suv-collide-in-anambra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/17\/one-dies-four-injured-as-truck-and-suv-collide-in-anambra\/","title":{"rendered":"One dies, four injured as truck and SUV collide in Anambra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One person died and four others injured in an accident that occurred before the Ukpo junction, along Onitsha- Nteje-Awka Expressway, Anambra State.<\/p>\n<p>The accident occurred late on Sunday when two vehicles, a commercial Howo truck (10 tyres) with registration number: JUX 95 XA and a private Honda CRV with registration number: LFA 224 TN collided.<\/p>\n<p>According to PUNCH, eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident said the crash occurred when the driver of the CRV was about to enter Ukpo junction and collided with the truck which was coming out from the junction at speed.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the driver of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/08\/two-escape-death-as-truck-rams-into-3-vehicles-on-lagos-abeokuta-expressway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">truck<\/a> lost control and fell on the CRV and crashed.<\/p>\n<p>A statement on Monday by the Acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Margaret Onabe, indicated that five persons were involved in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Onabe said, \u201cFour male adults sustained varying degrees of injury and one male adult was killed, the driver of the CRV. The probable cause of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/14\/buni-reacts-to-death-of-deputys-son-others-in-fatal-road-crash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> fatal road crash<\/a> was speed, loss of control by the truck driver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe crash victims were rushed to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs at the time of filing this report, the dead victim (driver of the CRV) is still trapped under the truck. Efforts are being made by the FRSC personnel at RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command to remove the trapped body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPersonnel are on the ground managing traffic and ensuring obstruction is cleared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that the Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, commiserated with the family of the dead victim, and sent his prayers to the injured persons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sector commander warned motorists to desist from excessive speeding and ensure their vehicles are road worthy before plying the road.
