{"id":263664,"date":"2023-04-20T04:48:46","date_gmt":"2023-04-20T03:48:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=263664"},"modified":"2023-04-20T04:49:25","modified_gmt":"2023-04-20T03:49:25","slug":"tanker-crushes-tricycle-driver-to-death-in-delta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/20\/tanker-crushes-tricycle-driver-to-death-in-delta\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanker crushes tricycle driver to death in Delta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A tanker has crushed an unidentified tricycle driver to death in Effurun, along the Warri-Sapele Road, in Delta State.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred on Monday when the tricycle driver who plied \u2018one-way\u2019 suddenly collided with the tanker which was on its normal route.<\/p>\n<p>The tanker driver was said to have claimed that he did not even see the tricycle as it suddenly rammed into his tanker at an obscured portion before the Tomatoes Market.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the tricycle was hit and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/05\/three-crushed-to-death-as-anambra-revenue-agents-move-to-arrest-truck-driver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crushed<\/a> under another tanker parked by the roadside.<\/p>\n<p>According to PUNCH, an eyewitness who would not want his name mentioned blamed the tricycle driver and lamented that he had defied traffic rule by plying \u2018one-way\u2019 on the ever-busy road, instead of going a distance further to make a U-turn at the designated point.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the incident, some commuters and traders around the market called on the Federal Road Safety authorities and the Delta State government to set up a task force to checkmate motorists from plying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/11\/10\/six-crushed-as-car-rams-into-motorcyclists-on-one-way-in-ogun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018one-way\u2019<\/a>, and the indiscriminate parking of tankers along express roads, especially around the Tomatoes Market area.<\/p>\n<p>Also, some commuters considered the parking of tankers along the Warri-Sapele Road as a major cause for concern.<\/p>\n<p>A witnessed, Udo Ifechukwu, noted that some of the tankers parked along the road at the market area had conveyed tomatoes, onions and other commodities loaded on their tops to the market.<\/p>\n<p>Ifechukwu, however, said that \u201cafter offloading the goods, the tankers are supposed to leave the arena but they don\u2019t. These are fuel tankers.
