A security guard, Maxwell Isang, has been remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old teenager in the Isale-Eko area of Lagos State.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old guard was arraigned on Thursday before Magistrate A. O. Salawu, who held briefs for P. E. Nwaka at a court sitting in the Yaba area of the state.<\/p>\n

Isang was charged with one count bordering on sexual defilement.<\/p>\n

The defendant was said to be a security guard<\/a> in the area where the victim lived and that he often lured the girl from her parent\u2019s house to his security post where he reportedly had sexual intercourse with her on several occasions and would warn her not to tell anyone.<\/p>\n

According to the prosecutor, Godwin Oriabure, holding a brief for Thomas Nurudeen, the defendant committed the crime on March 1, 2023, at No 44 Isale-Eko, in the Dolphin Estate area of the state.<\/p>\n

Oriabure also added that the offence contravened and is punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.<\/p>\n

The charge read, \u201cThat you, Maxwell Isang, on or before March 1, 2023, at No 44 Isale Eko, Dolphin Estate, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, at various intervals, at your security post, did lure a 15-years-old girl and had sexual intercourse with her, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.\u201d<\/p>\n

The defendant\u2019s plea was not taken.<\/p>\n

The prosecutor told the court that the offence was deliberate because the defendant had sexually abused the teenager<\/a> not once but on several occasions.<\/p>\n

He, therefore, prayed the court to remand the defendant to a correctional centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.<\/p>\n

Granting the request, Salawu ordered the remand of the defendant to the Ikoyi Correctional Center for 30 days pending legal advice from the DPP and adjourned the case till May 22, 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
