{"id":265875,"date":"2023-05-01T05:59:50","date_gmt":"2023-05-01T04:59:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=265875"},"modified":"2023-05-01T05:59:50","modified_gmt":"2023-05-01T04:59:50","slug":"why-theres-delay-in-completion-of-lagos-ibadan-expressway-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/01\/why-theres-delay-in-completion-of-lagos-ibadan-expressway-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"Why there&#8217;s delay in completion of Lagos-Ibadan expressway \u2013 FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has disclosed the reasons the deadline for the completion of the reconstruction of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/23\/seven-burnt-to-death-as-bus-crashes-on-lagos-ibadan-expressway\/\">Lagos-Ibadan expressway<\/a> could not be met. <\/p>\n<p>The government cited heavy rainfall and gridlock for the delay in completing the reconstruction of the busy road by end of April.<\/p>\n<p>The Director, Federal High Ways, South-West at the Ministry of Works and Housing, Ademola Kuti, made this known during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>After failing the meet up with the December 2022 deadline for the completion of the road project, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola had set a new completion date of April 30.<\/p>\n<p>However, Kuti said that the April deadline was not met because of rain and traffic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe earlier completion date of 30th of April which is today (Sunday), we were unable to meet that target because of some factors, majorly the heavy rain which we experienced since March and April and of course the unexpected heavy traffic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, assured motorists plying the route that the Federal Government is determined to complete the project but said he can\u2019t give an exact date of completion as he can\u2019t predict the weather.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, as we move into the next month (May), we expect that the rain will still be heavy and it will be a bit difficult but what we want to assure motorists is that we are determined is determined to complete this project, we are fully on ground.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a matter of fact, we opened access in the OPIC axis, that is from the Kara Bridge to the Long Bridge and what is left is just about a kilometre as you enter Lagos and then maybe another two kilometres as you are leaving Lagos and we are fully determined with enough men on ground to achieve this,\u201d Kuti stated<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has disclosed the reasons the deadline for the completion of the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway could not be met.
