{"id":266358,"date":"2023-05-03T08:28:49","date_gmt":"2023-05-03T07:28:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=266358"},"modified":"2023-05-03T08:28:49","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T07:28:49","slug":"13000-nigerians-benefited-from-flood-relief-interventions-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/03\/13000-nigerians-benefited-from-flood-relief-interventions-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"13,000 Nigerians benefited from flood relief interventions \u2014 FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government states that over 13,000 Nigerians have benefited from its numerous flood relief initiatives in the affected States of the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nasir Gwarzo, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development&#8217;s Permanent Secretary, made this information public on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking in Abuja at a gathering of key players in the humanitarian services.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria lists as stakeholders the World Food Programme, the ECOWAS Commission, and the Nigeria Red Cross Society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA total of 13,000 victims benefited from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/09\/14\/fg-gives-n10000-to-1-6-million-households-every-two-months-buhari\/\">flood relief interventions across 16 states<\/a> affected by the 2020 flood disaster in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese states include Anambra, Bayelsa, Katsina, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, Kwara, Niger, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa, Bauchi, Delta, Rivers, Adamawa and Yobe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is in addition to the implementation of stabilisation fund project in six local government areas in North-East and North-West where 27, 432 persons benefited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He expressed the commitment of the federal government towards providing the needed support to the vulnerable persons in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFood, shelter, households, water sanitation as well as cash was provided across the 16 flood-affected states,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Gwarzo said that the impact of the flood disaster necessitated collaboration with relevant humanitarian agencies to support government response towards providing succour to the victims.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the 2020 flood disaster has resulted in the loss of lives and livelihoods of Nigerians across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe socio-economic impact of the 2020 flood was very devastating. It resulted in the loss of lives and livelihoods in communities across the six geo-political zones in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe persistent conflict concomitant with the frequent insurgents\u2019 attacks also resulted in the displacement of hundreds of people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, commended the various national and international NGOs as well as other government agencies for their support in providing succour to Nigerians in times of need.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers at the event took turns to express their commitment to supporting government efforts in addressing the humanitarian situations of vulnerable Nigerians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government states that over 13,000 Nigerians have benefited from its numerous flood relief initiatives in the affected States of the nation.
