{"id":266944,"date":"2023-05-06T05:28:22","date_gmt":"2023-05-06T04:28:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=266944"},"modified":"2023-05-06T05:28:22","modified_gmt":"2023-05-06T04:28:22","slug":"uk-nursing-body-to-probe-512-nigerians-who-wrote-exam-in-ibadan-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/06\/uk-nursing-body-to-probe-512-nigerians-who-wrote-exam-in-ibadan-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"UK nursing body to probe 512 Nigerians who wrote exam in Ibadan centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Uk Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) says it will investigate those who wrote its exams at a computer-based test (CBT) centre in Ibadan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/05\/sudan-all-nigerians-stranded-in-khartoum-successfully-evacuated-fg\/\">Nigeria<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The council said the investigation is necessitated by concerns that registrations of those who passed its exam at the centre could be \u201cfraudulent or incorrect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The development was announced by the council in a statement on Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>The NMC uses a test of competence (ToC) to assess the skills and knowledge of people applying to join its register from overseas.<\/p>\n<p>The test is in two main parts: a multiple-choice CBT which applicants usually write in their home country; and a practical test known as the OSCE which people take in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>But in the statement on Thursday, the NMC said an organisation called Pearson VUE which runs the CBT programme on its behalf, recently raised the alarm of \u201canomalous data\u201d at one of its third-party CBT centres in Ibadan.<\/p>\n<p>The NMC said Pearson VUE stopped testing at the centre immediately.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 1,970 candidates took their CBT at this centre, of whom 512 are on the NMC register.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA total of 512 people on our register (around five percent of all the professionals on our register who qualified in Nigeria) took their CBT at this test centre,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re writing to them to set out what\u2019s happened and to tell them we\u2019re opening cases to determine whether or not they gained fraudulent or incorrect entry to the register.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore people have applied to join the register but are not yet on it, therefore they can\u2019t practise as a nurse or midwife. We\u2019ve paused their applications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re writing to these applicants to ask them to retake the test, and to request more information that we\u2019ll use to make a final decision about their applications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPearson VUE has reviewed all data relating to the NMC\u2019s CBT from every test site globally, and there is no evidence of similar activity at any other site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur paramount concern is to maintain the integrity of the register to protect the public.
