Residents of Sagamu, the headquarters of Sagamu Local Government, Ogun State, were gripped by trepidation and uncertainty on Saturday after a cult-related<\/a> violence erupted in the area. <\/p>\n

At least three persons were reportedly killed in the clash between warring cultist group that started during the week.<\/p>\n

It’s gathered that the young men, who are members of the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, reignited their usual supremacy battle on Tuesday, shooting at one another.<\/p>\n

As at Saturday, three persons were said to have been shot dead in the ongoing melee that has brought commercial activities to a halt in some parts of Sagamu.<\/p>\n

Locals said several other persons sustained injuries in the attack as apprehension and pandemonium pervaded the air. <\/p>\n

One of the victims, an attendant at Awabat filling station in Ijokun, was shot dead on Friday night.<\/p>\n

A local who’s familiar with the development disclosed that the man, simply identified as Matey, was shot in the head by some yet-to-be identified persons.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know if he was a cultist, we don\u2019t know what happened. We just saw that he was shot dead by cultists. He\u2019s a petrol attendant at Awabat in Ijokun,\u201d a mother of one, who pleaded anonymity, told Daily Post.<\/p>\n

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that three persons were killed in the melee.<\/p>\n

However, Oyeyemi disclosed that many of the cultists have been arrested by the police.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, three persons were killed in Sagamu by cultists. But we have arrested many of them. The Commissioner of Police has directed our tactical teams to be on standby. We have started trailing those involved and many are in custody. We are clamping in on them, more will still be arrested,\u201d Oyeyemi said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
