{"id":267419,"date":"2023-05-08T17:30:09","date_gmt":"2023-05-08T16:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=267419"},"modified":"2023-05-08T17:39:18","modified_gmt":"2023-05-08T16:39:18","slug":"presidential-tribunal-you-cant-stand-in-for-tinubu-court-tells-lalong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/08\/presidential-tribunal-you-cant-stand-in-for-tinubu-court-tells-lalong\/","title":{"rendered":"Presidential Tribunal: You can\u2019t stand in for Tinubu \u2013 Court tells Lalong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has barred Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State from standing before it as the representative of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>The Plateau State Governor had stood up and announced himself as Tinubu\u2019s representative immediately after the first petition lodged against the outcome of the 2023 presidential election was called up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy Lords, my name is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/07\/northern-governors-didnt-support-southern-presidency-because-of-tinubu-lalong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Simon Lalong<\/a>, and I am here to represent Tinubu,\u201d the Governor stated.<\/p>\n<p>However, Justice Haruna Tsammani-led five-member panel declined to recognize him as Tinubu\u2019s representative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou cannot represent an individual. Tinubu is not a corporation that would need a representative,\u201d the presiding justice held.<\/p>\n<p>But Governor Lalong responded, \u201cMy Lords, in that case, I will represent the All Progressives Congress, APC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the court adjourned further pre-hearing session on the petition brought by Peter Obi and the Labour Party, LP, filed to nullify Tinubu\u2019s election victory till Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The court set the same date for another petition by the Action Peoples Party, APP.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, it adjourned the petition of Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, till Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has barred Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State from standing before it as the representative of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.
