One Usman Hammed, a tenant, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates\u2019 Court, Lagos State, for allegedly assaulting his landlady over an electricity bill.<\/p>\n

Hammed, 46, is being tried for assault to which he pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n

The Prosecutor, Insp. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 8 at about 9 pm at No 25, Olaniyi Str., Agiliti, Mile 12, Lagos State<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Perezi alleged that the defendant assaulted the complainant, Mrs Josephine Durodola, when she demanded money from him for payment of an electricity bill.<\/p>\n

He told the court that the defendant hit the complainant\u2019s head against an iron gate which caused her great pain, and she was hospitalised.<\/p>\n

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.<\/p>\n

The Magistrate, M.O. Tanimola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.<\/p>\n

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates three years jail term for a convicted offender.<\/p>\n
