{"id":268165,"date":"2023-05-12T12:51:02","date_gmt":"2023-05-12T11:51:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=268165"},"modified":"2023-05-12T12:51:02","modified_gmt":"2023-05-12T11:51:02","slug":"kaduna-divorce-seeking-wife-ordered-to-return-n80k-bride-price","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/12\/kaduna-divorce-seeking-wife-ordered-to-return-n80k-bride-price\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaduna: Divorce-seeking wife ordered to return N80k bride price"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A divorce-seeking wife, Fatima Muhammad, has been ordered by a Sharia Court in Kaduna to return the N80,000 received as dowry in exchange for divorce.<\/p>\n<p>Muhammad had told the court that she wanted to redeem herself from the marriage and was ready to return the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/01\/abuja-man-rejects-bride-price-from-wife-after-divorce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dowry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge, Malam Muhammad Adamu-Shehu, who gave the ruling\u00a0advised the woman to file another suit to claim custody of their three-year-old child.<\/p>\n<p>The complainant had earlier told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/02\/02\/sharia-court-dissolves-gandujes-daughters-marriage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sharia Court<\/a> that she was no longer interested in the marriage, hence not ready to entertain any avenue for settlement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am tired of the union and I cannot be an obedient wife to him; I prayed court to grant me custody of our three-year-old daughter,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant, through his counsel, Mr L. R.
