Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, has responded after the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, requested seven weeks to call 50 witnesses to prove his case against President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n
WITHIN NIGERIA\u00a0reported that the request was made on Saturday during the continuation of the pre-hearing case before the presidential election tribunal<\/a> headed by\u00a0Justice Haruna Tsammani.<\/p>\n Peter Obi and the Labour Party intend to call 50 witnesses to testify in court for 30 minutes, excluding time for any electronic demonstration of evidence.<\/p>\n Their lawyer, Awa Kalu (SAN), announced this during the petition’s pre-hearing session on Saturday.<\/p>\n Kalu explained the reason for the request, saying his clients will need seven weeks to present their case because they are still dealing with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n He stated that the petitioners have yet to conduct the court-ordered forensic examination of the BVAS devices used in the previous presidential election and that they have yet to receive some of the documents requested from INEC.<\/p>\n Keyamo responded on Twitter, saying that the election Petition Tribunal will not immediately determine the outcome of the election before May 29th because the opposition will require more time to prove their case.<\/p>\n However, he stated that the process is gradually unfolding and that in due course, truths will be distinguished from fantasies.<\/p>\n He tweeted;<\/strong><\/p>\n More than a week ago, I tried to educate some of those calling for the \u2018instant\u2019 determination of the Presidential Election Petitions before May 29th that it is even the Petitioners that would need more time to prove their cases.<\/em><\/p>\n Shockingly, some supposedly \u2018learned\u2019 fellows goaded the mob to believe otherwise.
