{"id":270211,"date":"2023-05-24T15:11:38","date_gmt":"2023-05-24T14:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=270211"},"modified":"2023-05-24T15:11:38","modified_gmt":"2023-05-24T14:11:38","slug":"breaking-cbn-raises-interest-rate-to-20-5-per-cent-amid-rising-inflation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/24\/breaking-cbn-raises-interest-rate-to-20-5-per-cent-amid-rising-inflation\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: CBN raises interest rate to 20.5 per cent amid rising inflation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank of Nigeria\u2019s Monetary Policy Committee MPC has further increased the interest rate by 2.5 per cent to 20.5 per cent from 18 per cent in March.<\/p>\n<p>Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of Central Nigeria, disclosed this on Tuesday during the MPC communique presentation and Analysis.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the decision is to curtail the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/15\/breaking-nigerias-inflation-increases-to-22-22-per-cent-as-food-prices-soar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rising inflation<\/a> in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur actions to increase the MPR rates are potent because the inflationary pressures you see today confronting us are a global phenomenon and this started in 2022\u201d, he stated.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the policy-setting committee raised the MPR from 17.5 to 18 per cent in February to tackle inflation.
