{"id":271369,"date":"2023-05-31T09:09:08","date_gmt":"2023-05-31T08:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=271369"},"modified":"2023-05-31T09:09:08","modified_gmt":"2023-05-31T08:09:08","slug":"tinubu-efcc-told-to-re-open-all-abandoned-corruption-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/31\/tinubu-efcc-told-to-re-open-all-abandoned-corruption-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu, EFCC told to re-open all abandoned corruption cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Bola Tinubu and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have been requested by an anti-corruption group in Lagos State to reopen all closed fraud cases in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The youths, working with the Transparency Society Network, want the President to revisit the corruption cases and bring them to a logical conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Solomon Omokehinde, the executive director of the Transparency Society Network, congratulated Tinubu in a statement made available to newsmen and expressed confidence that, under the new President&#8217;s leadership, Nigeria would reclaim its rightful place among the world&#8217;s nations.<\/p>\n<p>Omokehinde asserted that for this to occur, the President must act to combat financial crimes and corruption because doing so would provide clarity about the direction his administration is taking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo this end, we strongly advise Mr. President to pay attention and revisit all cases of corruption that have not been prosecuted to a logical conclusion and has brought disrepute to the nation,\u201d Omokehinde stated, noting that anti-graft agencies should be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/10\/30\/publish-sources-of-your-campaign-funding-serap-asks-atiku-tinubu-obi-others\/\">given the necessary backing to carry out<\/a> their work unhindered.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that, \u201cone of such cases that will serve as a litmus test for Mr. President is the corruption charges levied against the Speaker of his home state, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group called on the EFCC to make public its findings about the Speaker and spendings in the Lagos State House of Assembly, so as to put an end to all forms of speculation since the probe was first instituted in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>As an advocacy group leader, Omokehinde noted that Lagosians are interested in how their funds were being spent by those in the helms of affairs.<\/p>\n<p>He called on the 36 State assemblies across the nation to be prudent and transparent in public spending, especially as a new dispensation beckons across the country.<\/p>\n<p>He requested that all high profile corruption cases be prosecuted to a logical conclusion, beyond the arrest of internet fraudsters and convictions by the EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe strongly believe that no corruption allegation should be swept under the carpet or be overlooked,\u201d the statement concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Bola Tinubu and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have been requested by an anti-corruption group in Lagos State to reopen all closed fraud cases in Nigeria.
