{"id":271419,"date":"2023-05-31T12:15:55","date_gmt":"2023-05-31T11:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=271419"},"modified":"2023-05-31T12:15:55","modified_gmt":"2023-05-31T11:15:55","slug":"why-fuel-subsidy-removal-is-important-to-nigerias-economy-ipman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/31\/why-fuel-subsidy-removal-is-important-to-nigerias-economy-ipman\/","title":{"rendered":"Why fuel subsidy removal is important to Nigeria&#8217;s economy \u2013 IPMAN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has said subsidy removal is very important to Nigeria economy.<\/p>\n<p>IPMAN spokesperson Yakubu Suleiman on Channels Television\u2019s Sunrise Dailyprogramme on Wednesday said the move is the only way to make Nigeria great.<\/p>\n<p>During his inaugural speech after he was sworn in on Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/29\/breaking-fuel-subsidy-is-gone-says-tinubu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSubsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources. We shall instead re-channel the funds into better investment in public infrastructure, education, health care and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions,\u201d Tinubu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe commend the decision of the outgoing administration in phasing out the petrol subsidy regime which has increasingly favoured the rich more than the poor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu\u2019s announcement saw the return of fuel queues and Nigerians forced to buy a litre of petrol between N550 and N650.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIPMAN\u2019s position is that the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is supporting or has supported the deregulation of the industry,\u201d Suleiman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRemoving subsidy is the only answer to make Nigeria great because there is no country that can survive without deregulating the economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really applaud Mr President for having the courage to announce the removal of subsidy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Suleiman said former President Muhammadu Buhari announced subsidy removal by not making provision for it beyond June 2023 in the budget for this year.<\/p>\n<p>He said refined petrol without subsidy payment will come into force by July and not June.
