{"id":271440,"date":"2023-05-31T13:32:08","date_gmt":"2023-05-31T12:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=271440"},"modified":"2023-05-31T13:32:08","modified_gmt":"2023-05-31T12:32:08","slug":"lagos-man-sentenced-to-life-imprisonment-for-defiling-8-year-old-daughter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/31\/lagos-man-sentenced-to-life-imprisonment-for-defiling-8-year-old-daughter\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos man sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling 8-year-old daughter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One Suleimon Usman has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling his eight-year-old daughter in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/31\/lagos-estate-residents-seek-arrest-prosecution-of-lastma-boss-over-embezzlement-of-n50m\/\">Lagos state<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The 42-year-old man was convicted and sentenced by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday<\/p>\n<p>According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Usman was charged with a two-count charge bordering on defilement, which he had pleaded not guilty to.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Rahmon Oshodi in his judgment, however, discharged and acquitted the defendant of the second charge.<\/p>\n<p>Oshodi held that the prosecution failed to prove the second charge against the defendant as the second victim did not testify in the trial.<\/p>\n<p>The court held that: \u201cThe testimony of the first survivor corroborates the evidence of the medical doctor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe survivor said that she felt pain in her bombom when her father put his finger in her virgina and also inserted his penis in her anus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have considered the ingredients of the offences; the confessional statement, circumstantial evidence and the eyewitness account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not believe that the first survivor was tutored. I reiterate that her evidence is credible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegardless, I have already received an eyewitness account, where the survivor said \u2018my daddy used to carry me every night from our room and put me in parlour and put his penis in my bombom\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The judge further held that the prosecution provided evidence of a medical doctor who examined the survivor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe medical report showed redness in the virginal lips, the anus was loosen and getting healed and there was penetration in the survivor anus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am convinced that the medical doctor\u2019s evidence corroborates the survivor\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mother said the crime scene is their family parlour. I do not consider the defendant\u2019s testimony as credible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI find the defendant guilty of count one and he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment,\u201d Oshodi said.<\/p>\n<p>The state counsel, Ms Inumidun Solarin, presented four witnesses: first survivor, the eight-year-old girl, an Investigative Police Officer (IPO), mother of the survivor and the medical doctor from Mirabel Center, while the defence called three witnesses during trial.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor said the convict committed the offence which is contrary to section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, at No. 2 Bale St., Onisiwo in Apapa, Lagos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One Suleimon Usman has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling his eight-year-old daughter in Lagos state.
