{"id":271802,"date":"2023-06-02T08:37:54","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T07:37:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=271802"},"modified":"2023-06-02T08:37:54","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T07:37:54","slug":"waec-supervisors-aiding-exam-malpractice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/06\/02\/waec-supervisors-aiding-exam-malpractice\/","title":{"rendered":"WAEC: Supervisors aiding exam malpractice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The West African Examination Council has alleged that supervisors who are supposed to take\u00a0questions to examination centres are aiding and abetting malpractices across the country.<\/p>\n<p>This was made known on Thursday in Abuja by the Head of National Office, Nigeria, Mr Patrick Areghan while monitoring the examination in some Government Secondary Schools.<\/p>\n<p>During the monitoring process, he identified 56 rogue website operators that leaked its West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations.<\/p>\n<p>Areghan said that the identified rogue website operators would be prosecuted by the police in due course, saying\u00a0 \u201cSome gullible parents and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/05\/27\/tuition-hike-uniabuja-clarifies-suspension-of-two-students\/\">students<\/a> will go for it and destroy themselves because there is no way they can get our questions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn all, we have made arrests of no fewer than 15 persons comprising candidates, supervisors, school proprietors, and others connected with the malpractices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSupervisors are our problems, they make a lot of money from this. The exam is taking place in over 21,000 secondary schools in Nigeria with only 2,000 staff strength, how many centres are we going to man?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese supervisors are teachers given to us by state ministries of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/04\/26\/fg-approves-n53bn-for-works-education-aviation-ministries\/\">education<\/a> and when they come, they make it a business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not in control of social media, small boys post questions for advertisement and ask candidates to subscribe on their websites and then they give them fake questions,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a regulation to release papers to supervisors one hour before commencement time to enable them to go from the collection point to the administrative point because of distance in some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/03\/28\/ekiti-subeb-orders-establishment-of-functional-libraries-in-public-primary-schools\/\">schools<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut what they do is to snap the question papers and send them to their syndicate groups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCandidates are already in the exam hall and you are posting the questions.
