The highlight of the Adamawa State House of Assembly’s valedictory session on Friday was the gift of a new car to a security guard by state legislators.<\/p>\n

Malam Zira Kwaji, a security guard at the Assembly complex who was praised for his exceptional work ethic, received the key to a new Toyota Starlet during the final session of the 7th Assembly from Speaker Aminu Iya Abbas.<\/p>\n

To the cheers of the lawmakers and assembly staff, the Speaker remarked, “This man is ever available: morning, afternoon, and night; just call him and he is there for you, working far beyond the calls of his beat.”<\/p>\n

Abbas disclosed that members of the House contributed towards buying the car for Kwaji, who, did not even have a bicycle.
\nThe car came with N100,000 in cash for fuel.<\/p>\n

Zira Kwaji, who told newsmen that he found pleasure in doing his job, said he did not anticipate any special recognition and certainly not a gift of a car.<\/p>\n

The Friday valedictory session, which officially brought the 7th Assembly to an end, was attended by legislators, workers, former members of the assembly,<\/a> and members of the public.<\/p>\n

Each of the state legislators who attended the valedictory session made a speech, including the Majority Leader, Janet Kefas, who was thankful that no member died in the last four years and the members never had occasion to exchange angry blows.<\/p>\n

The only woman in the 25-member Assembly, Kate Raymond, who will return to the 8th Assembly (as the only female member of the House), urged her fellow members-elect not to take their re-election for granted but to thank their constituents for, once again, trusting them for diligent service.<\/p>\n

Speaker Abbas, in his valedictory speech, disclosed that the 7th Assembly had, since 2019, passed 65 bills and 63 resolutions, adding that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had signed 37 of those bills into law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
