{"id":274258,"date":"2023-06-14T21:30:23","date_gmt":"2023-06-14T20:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=274258"},"modified":"2023-06-14T21:32:06","modified_gmt":"2023-06-14T20:32:06","slug":"official-cbn-announces-unification-of-all-exchange-rate-windows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/06\/14\/official-cbn-announces-unification-of-all-exchange-rate-windows\/","title":{"rendered":"OFFICIAL: CBN announces unification of all exchange rate windows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Foreign Exchange (FX) Market will now operate under some immediate adjustments outlined by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).<\/p>\n<p>The CBN stated on Wednesday that the RT200 rebate programme and the Naira4Dollar remittance programme would both end on June 30 in a statement signed by Angela Sere-Ejembi, director of the financial markets division.<\/p>\n<p>New rules governing the country&#8217;s foreign currency market&#8217;s operation were also mentioned in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>The CBN advises all market participants and the general public to follow the regulations until additional instructions regarding the adjustments are given.<\/p>\n<p>The full statement reads:<\/p>\n<p><strong>OPERATIONAL CHANGES TO THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE MARKET<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) wishes to inform all authorized dealers and the general public of the following immediate changes to operations in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange (FX) Market:<\/p>\n<p>Abolishment of segmentation. All segments are now collapsed into the Investors and Exporters (I&amp;E) window. Applications for medicals, school fees, BTA\/PTA, and SMEs would continue to be processed through deposit money banks.<\/p>\n<p>Re-introduction of the &#8220;Willing Buyer, Willing Seller&#8221; model at the I&amp;E Window. Operations in this window shall be guided by the extant circular on the establishment of the window, dated 21 April 2017 and referenced FMD\/DIR\/CIR\/GEN\/08\/007. All eligible transactions are permitted to access foreign exchange at this window.<\/p>\n<p>The operational rate for all government-related transactions shall be the weighted average rate of the preceding day&#8217;s executed transactions at the I&amp;E window, calculated to two (2) decimal places.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Proscription of trading limits on oversold FX positions with permission to hedge short positions with OTC futures. Limits on overbought positions shall be zero.<\/li>\n<li>Re-introduction of order-based two-way quotes, with bid-ask spread of N1. All transactions shall be cleared by a Central Counter Party (CCP).<\/li>\n<li>Reintroduction of Order Book to ensure transparency of orders and seamless execution of trades.<\/li>\n<li>The operational hours of trades shall be from 9am to 4pm, Nigeria time.<\/li>\n<li>Cessation of RT200 Rebate Scheme and the Naira4Dollar Remittance Scheme, with effect from 30 June 2023.<\/li>\n<li>Further guidance on these matters shall be communicated in due course.
