The proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has blasted Asari Dokunbo, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force (NDPSF), for seeking the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu.<\/p>\n

This was made known on Friday by Dokunbo while speaking on Friday after visiting President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock.<\/p>\n

Dokubo asked the federal government not to release Kanu, leader of IPOB<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kanu has been in detention on terrorism charges since he was brought back from Kenya on June 19, 2021.<\/p>\n

In a statement released on Sunday, Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesperson, said those using Kanu\u2019s \u201cillegal detention to look for oil guard contract<\/a>\u201d in Aso Rock should be guided in their utterances.<\/p>\n

Powerful warned that Kanu\u2019s name should not be used to \u201cbuy favour\u201d in the corridors of power.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are cautioning those campaigning for continuous illegal detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to be aware of dangers ahead. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is the only innocent political prisoner in Nigeria because of ethnic profiling and prejudice,\u201d the proscribed separatist group said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has not committed any crime known to local and international laws. Nigeria government must release him unconditionally as ordered by the courts or risk paying the price of disobedience to laws.\u201d<\/p>\n

The court of appeal in Abuja in October 2022 struck out the terrorism charge filed against Kanu.<\/p>\n

The appellate court held that Kanu\u2019s extradition from Kenya to Nigeria to stand trial was illegal.<\/span><\/p>\n

The federal government later filed an appeal before the supreme court<\/a> challenging the judgement \u2014 and subsequently filed an amended charge<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>before a federal high court.<\/span><\/p>\n

The federal government also filed a stay of execution in the appellate court and it was granted.<\/span><\/p>\n

The supreme court heard the case in May but adjourned\u00a0to September 14.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
