The Chairman of the Presidential Election Petitions<\/a> Court, Justice Haruna Tsammani, has reiterated the panel’s commitment to rely on the law in deciding petitions before the court.<\/p>\n

Justice Tsammani spoke on Wednesday during the hearing of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) petition against Vice President Kashim Shettima’s alleged double nomination.<\/p>\n

APM’s counsel, A.G. Idiagbonya, claimed that INEC refused to provide some documents requested by the party.<\/p>\n

However, INEC’s counsel, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), informed the court that the APM subpoena was served on the commission only on June 19, 2023, despite the fact that the petition was filed on March 30.<\/p>\n

He told the court that everyone always finds a reason to pick on INEC.<\/p>\n

Tsammani responded by saying he read some media commentary accusing the panel of siding with INEC against other parties.<\/p>\n

Some people are writing that we are siding with INEC. Anybody can write anything they like to write. But we will determine these petitions in accordance with the law and our conscience, he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
