{"id":276703,"date":"2023-06-27T16:27:26","date_gmt":"2023-06-27T15:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=276703"},"modified":"2023-06-27T16:27:26","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T15:27:26","slug":"court-adjourns-trial-of-ex-lagos-attorney-general-shasore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/06\/27\/court-adjourns-trial-of-ex-lagos-attorney-general-shasore\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Adjourns Trial Of Ex-Lagos Attorney General Shasore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The trial of Mr. Olasupo Shasore, a former attorney general for the state of Lagos, has been postponed till October 4 for hearing by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant was charged with four charges of money laundering by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on October 20, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>He was granted bail in the amount of N50 million with one surety in the same amount after entering a not guilty plea to the charge.<\/p>\n<p>During the administration of former governor Babatunde Fashola, Shasore held the positions of commissioner for justice and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/06\/27\/peter-obi-speaks-on-demolition-of-igbo-dominated-alaba-market-by-lagos-govt\/\">attorney general for Lagos State.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the resumed hearing on Tuesday, Mr. Bala Sanga announced his appearance for the prosecution, while Mr. Olawale Akoni, SAN, announced his appearance for the defendant.<\/p>\n<p>Akoni told the court that the matter for the day was the hearing of their application dated and filed Feb. 17.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, told the court that there were some developments in the matter, that might affect the hearing of the application.<\/p>\n<p>Akoni told the court that recent events showed the possibility of an amicable resolution of the matter, saying that a similar case was also pending before the Lagos High Court Ikeja.<\/p>\n<p>He therefore requested an adjournment to enable parties to succinctly exhaust discussions and reach an agreement on the matters.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution counsel, who confirmed Akoni\u2019s submission, did not object to his plea for adjournment.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, Aneke acquiesced to Akoni\u2019s request and adjourned the matter to October 4 for hearing.<\/p>\n<p>In the charge, the former AG was alleged to have made a cash payment of $100,000 to one Olufolakemi Adelore through one Auwalu Habu and Wole Aboderin.<\/p>\n<p>He was alleged to have committed the offences on or about November 18, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>EFCC also alleged that the defendant made a cash payment of $100,000 to one Ikechukwu Oguine without going through a financial institution.<\/p>\n<p>The offences, the anti-graft agency, said contravene the provisions of sections 1(a) 16(1)(d), 18(c), and 78(c) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The trial of Mr. Olasupo Shasore, a former attorney general for the state of Lagos, has been postponed till October 4 for hearing by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
