{"id":27673,"date":"2021-04-29T19:04:25","date_gmt":"2021-04-29T18:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=27673"},"modified":"2021-04-29T19:04:25","modified_gmt":"2021-04-29T18:04:25","slug":"how-soldier-worked-with-police-to-arrest-kidnappers-who-offered-n1m-to-buy-ak-47-rifle-in-ogun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/29\/how-soldier-worked-with-police-to-arrest-kidnappers-who-offered-n1m-to-buy-ak-47-rifle-in-ogun\/","title":{"rendered":"How soldier worked with police to arrest kidnappers who offered N1m to buy AK-47 rifle in Ogun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A lance corporal of the Nigerian Army has exposed some suspected kidnappers, who approached him to purchase an AK-47 rifle at the rate of N1 million in Ogun state.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that that the soldier (name withheld) is attached to the Alamala Barracks, along Ayetoro-Abeokuta road, Ogun State.<\/p>\n<p>According to DAILY TRUST, on April 7, \u201csome <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/11\/suspect-narrates-how-fulani-men-recruited-him-into-kidnapping-gang-in-ibadan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fulani<\/a> boys\u201d met the said soldier, telling him they needed the rifle for kidnapping purposes.<\/p>\n<p>The soldier was said to have asked the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/21\/how-kidnappers-unleash-terror-on-commuters-and-motorists-on-ogun-long-bridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kidnappers<\/a> to meet him the following day, saying he would connect them with a vendor.<\/p>\n<p>Unknown to the kidnappers, the soldier immediately reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer of Ilupeju division in Abeokuta North.<\/p>\n<p>On the strength of the report, the DPO was said to have mobilised and led a synergised team of policemen from the Ilupeju and Lafenwa divisions as well as men of the OPC and So-Safe Corps to the Rounder area of Abeokuta, where they waited several hours for \u2018the intending gun buyers\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The DPO had pretended to be the vendor of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/21\/photo-police-arrest-two-kidnappers-recover-two-ak-47-rifles-in-lagos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AK-47 rifle<\/a> when the suspected kidnappers finally showed up.<\/p>\n<p>In their negotiation with the police officer, who had pretended to be the AK-47 supplier, the kidnappers offered to pay a sum of N1 million.<\/p>\n<p>However, the men reportedly brought out N200,000 as part payment, promising to pay a balance of N800,000 by 8am the following day.<\/p>\n<p>In the process, they were rounded up, arrested and later transferred to the state criminal investigation department, Eleweran, Abeokuta.<\/p>\n<p>The kidnappers include 19-year-old Haruna Daruna of Niger State, 17-year-old Mohammed Bello, 53-year-old Abubakar Usman, 43-year-old Mohammed Guda, 42-year-old Isah Ahmed and 25-year-old Babangida Alhaji Gani.<\/p>\n<p>Others are Mohammed Lawal, 34 years; Umar Usman, 56 years and Badamosi Umar, 28.<\/p>\n<p>The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident said the suspects are still being investigated to ensure the arrest of other accomplices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lance corporal of the Nigerian Army has exposed some suspected kidnappers, who approached him to purchase an AK-47 rifle at the rate of N1 million in Ogun state.
