{"id":278083,"date":"2023-07-05T21:48:33","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T20:48:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=278083"},"modified":"2023-07-05T21:48:33","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T20:48:33","slug":"pdp-members-stage-another-walkout-in-abia-assembly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/07\/05\/pdp-members-stage-another-walkout-in-abia-assembly\/","title":{"rendered":"PDP members stage another walkout in Abia Assembly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, after 11 PDP members decided to stage a walkout from the chambers in protest, more drama broke out at the Abia State House of Assembly in Umuahia.<\/p>\n<p>Security personnel were preventing journalists from entering the legislative chambers to cover proceedings at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The PDP lawmakers were upset that no PDP members ran for Majority and Deputy Majority leaders in the primary elections.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the irate PDP members demand that Standing Order 8, Rule 42 be properly interpreted.<\/p>\n<p>There were numerous police officers and other security personnel present during the plenary who were presumably from the Department of State Security, DSS.<\/p>\n<p>After the protest, Obingwa West State Constituency representative Hon. Solomon Akpulonu addressed the media.<\/p>\n<p>He voiced his concerns regarding the unusually high level of security personnel present during the plenary session and the lack of journalists.<\/p>\n<p>Akpulonu highlighted that when they reviewed the votes and proceedings of the House for adoption, they discovered that the names of the House members they had been opposing were repeated. This prompted the PDP lawmakers to demand the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/06\/video-two-men-beaten-for-staging-buhari-must-go-protest-in-kogi\/\">removal of those names<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Akpulonu stated that they would not participate in what they consider an illegality, as the PDP refuses to accept the role of a minority party. He emphasized their intention to seek legal interpretation of the matter, which, in his view, is unambiguous.<\/p>\n<p>He appealed to Governor Alex Otti to intervene as the father figure of the state.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa had previously cautioned against any form of distraction within the House during a statement made on Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, after 11 PDP members decided to stage a walkout from the chambers in protest, more drama broke out at the Abia State House of Assembly in Umuahia.
