Senator Neda Imasuen of Edo South has promised that the 10th Senate will not be a rubber stamp<\/a> for the Executive branch of government.<\/p>\n

In an address to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, he stated that the opposition Senators will only work for the country’s growth and development.<\/p>\n

Imasuen stated that the new senate will be corrective and will work with the executive to deliver results for Nigerians.<\/p>\n

He stated that the emergence of the principal officers was a result of democracy at work, made possible by the fact that the majority of the opposition Senators were not from a single political party but rather from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).<\/p>\n

The Labour Senator stated that he is pleased with the outcome of the process because the PDP received two seats, while Labour and the NNPP each received one.<\/p>\n

I don’t believe this Senate can be a rubber stamp; I don’t think that can happen,” he said of the Senate’s ability to do the right thing. The simple reason is that there is no clear demarcation between who is the opposition and who is the leadership, resulting in clusters of opposition parties among the opposition.<\/p>\n

So, are you telling me that PDP will tell me how to vote, that is not going to happen. I have an independent mind, so, NNPP, even among PDP Senators, they are not so cohesive that they will all face one direction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Speaking on the expected ministerial list, he said;<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are up to the task, one thing I can assure you is that you will hear my voice, you will hear the voices of other opposition Senators if need be. I am sure that even within the PDP, the main opposition party, you will also hear divergent views that will oppose such things (if a ministerial nominee is deemed not good enough). This is a very unique 10th Senate and as time goes on you will bear me witness that I told you so.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
