{"id":278850,"date":"2023-07-10T15:04:55","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T14:04:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=278850"},"modified":"2023-07-10T15:04:55","modified_gmt":"2023-07-10T14:04:55","slug":"they-should-go-to-court-fayose-reacts-to-critics-allegation-of-funds-misappropriation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/07\/10\/they-should-go-to-court-fayose-reacts-to-critics-allegation-of-funds-misappropriation\/","title":{"rendered":"They should go to court \u2013 Fayose reacts to critics&#8217; allegation of funds misappropriation"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Fayose said he did not borrow when he was governor<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>He said Ekiti people will not forget the good work he did as governor<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/07\/10\/why-wike-should-be-in-tinubus-cabinet-fayose\/\">Former Governor of Ekiti, Ayo Fayose<\/a>, has advised those accusing him of embezzling and misappropriating public funds to go to court.<\/p>\n<p>Fayose has come under heavy criticism over his handling of the state fund during his time as the state governor.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during an interview on Channels Television\u2019s \u2018Politics Today\u2019 on Sunday, furious Fayose told his critics to \u201cgo to court\u201d adding that he made his money outside politics.<\/p>\n<p>He said he did well as the governor of Ekiti state and the people of the state can&#8217;t forget him.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he would publish details of how he administered state funds as Ekiti governor, he answered; \u201cThat\u2019s a very meaningless question. They have charged me to court, anybody that is not satisfied should also take me to court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can I be explaining how I spent (Ekiti money)? I was one governor that never borrowed a dime. Ekiti people cannot forget me for the good works I did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you (referring to the anchor) think I\u2019m a pauper? I made my money before you became a presenter. So don\u2019t go there at all. If anybody\u2019s money is missing, let them go to court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor is a member of the rebellious people&#8217;s democratic party G-5 group and a staunch supporter of president Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>The PDP chieftain and his company, Spotless Investment Limited are being prosecuted over an alleged N6.9 billion fraud.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on July 2, 2019, re-arraigned Fayose and Spotless on an 11-count charge bordering on money laundering and stealing.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants were first arraigned on October 22, 2018, before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun.<\/p>\n<p>The case was later adjourned till May 8 and 9 and June 6, 8, 2023 for continuation of trial<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fayose said he did not borrow when he was governor He said Ekiti people will not forget the good work he did as governor Former Governor of Ekiti, Ayo Fayose, has advised those accusing him of embezzling and misappropriating public funds to go to court.
