{"id":279234,"date":"2023-07-12T15:34:51","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T14:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=279234"},"modified":"2023-07-12T15:34:51","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T14:34:51","slug":"osun-assembly-abrogate-states-anthem-crest-flag-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/07\/12\/osun-assembly-abrogate-states-anthem-crest-flag-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Osun Assembly abrogates state\u2019s anthem, crest, flag law"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The state assembly said the annulment of the law is in compliance with a court order.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>It disclosed that a new law that is in line with the provisions of Nigeria&#8217;s constitution will be enacted<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/12\/06\/osun-state-gets-new-head-of-service\/\">The Osun State<\/a> House of Assembly has announced the abrogation of the Osun State Anthem, Crest, and Flag Law of 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker of the Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, made the announcement during plenary on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the law was repealed in compliance with the judgment of a Federal High Court of December 14, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>He said the invalidation of the law by the court and consequent abrogation by the state legislative body would engender the promulgation of a new law that would align with the dictates and letters of the Nigerian constitution.<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker said, \u201cUnderstanding, however, that there may be some aspects of the law that are appropriate, the House agreed that all corrections made on Osun State Anthem, Crest and Flag Law 2012 form part of the Bill for Osun State Anthem, Crest and Flag Bill 2023, sponsored by the Majority Leader.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn essence, what the House has done, is vacate a law that had already been invalidated by a Court of competent jurisdiction, to pave the way for a new law that will respect the letters and spirit of the Nigerian constitution that swore to abide by.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kanmi Ajibola, now a member of the House representing Oriade State Constituency had taken the administration of former governor Rauf Aregbesola to court over the creation of an anthem, flag, and crest for the state.<\/p>\n<p>You will also recall that the administration changed the state\u2019s name from \u201cOsun State, the State of the Living Spring\u201d to \u201cState of Osun, the State of the Virtuous which has also been repealed<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The state assembly said the annulment of the law is in compliance with a court order.
