{"id":280323,"date":"2023-07-20T14:15:26","date_gmt":"2023-07-20T13:15:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=280323"},"modified":"2023-07-20T14:26:38","modified_gmt":"2023-07-20T13:26:38","slug":"police-drag-lagos-woman-to-court-over-possession-of-36-berets-with-ipob-insignia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/07\/20\/police-drag-lagos-woman-to-court-over-possession-of-36-berets-with-ipob-insignia\/","title":{"rendered":"Police drag Lagos woman to court over possession of 36 berets with IPOB insignia"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>She is charged with conspiracy and unlawful possession of IPOB berets<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Prosecutor says she violates the criminal laws of Lagos<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>One Charity Iroakazi, 28, has been arrested by the police in Lagos over unlawful possession of a separatist group&#8217;s paraphernalia.<\/p>\n<p>Iroakazi, on Thursday, was arraigned for having 36 berets with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/07\/20\/continued-detention-of-nnamdi-kanu-will-spell-doom-for-nigeria-ipob-tells-tinubu\/\">Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB<\/a>, insignia on them in her custody.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant, an artisan who resides at 14 Nurudeen St., Ojo, Lagos, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates\u2019 Court for allegedly<\/p>\n<p>She is being tried for conspiracy and unlawful possession of IPOB berets, NAN reports.<\/p>\n<p>According to the the prosecutor, Insp Samuel Mishozunnu, the offences were committed on June 16 at Mosalasi Bus Stop, Satellite Town, Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Mishozunnu told the court that the police on patrol intercepted a rider carrying a big black nylon in his motorcycle.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant said the rider was carrying 36 pieces of black, green and red berets with IPOB insignia written on them.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor said that the rider led the police to the sender\u2019s address, leading to the defendant\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n<p>According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrate, Mrs Folasade Hughes, granted the defendant bail for N50,000 with one surety in like sum.<\/p>\n<p>Hughes adjourned the case until Aug. 2 for mention.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has again implored president Bola Tinubu to see the incarceration of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as an issue of national significance and order his immediate release.<\/p>\n<p>The group said this in reaction to a call by the Coalition of Northern Group, CNG, urging Tinubu not to release Kanu.<\/p>\n<p>However, IPOB\u2019s spokesman, Emma Powerful, warned that the continued detention of Kanu portends grave danger for Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Powerful described the Northern coalition as clueless for urging Tinubu not to release Kanu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>She is charged with conspiracy and unlawful possession of IPOB berets Prosecutor says she violates the criminal laws of Lagos One Charity Iroakazi, 28, has been arrested by the police in Lagos over unlawful possession of a separatist group&#8217;s paraphernalia.
