{"id":282139,"date":"2023-08-03T07:43:39","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T06:43:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=282139"},"modified":"2023-08-03T08:03:09","modified_gmt":"2023-08-03T07:03:09","slug":"i-dont-want-to-die-colleague-recounts-final-moments-of-doctor-killed-in-horrific-elevator-mishap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/03\/i-dont-want-to-die-colleague-recounts-final-moments-of-doctor-killed-in-horrific-elevator-mishap\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018I don\u2019t want to die\u2019 \u2014 colleague recounts final moments of doctor killed in horrific elevator mishap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Twitter user with the username @LaseMoye, has narrated the final moments before the death of Vwaere Diaso, a medical doctor at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/02\/nma-declares-indefinite-strike-over-doctors-death-in-lagos\/\">Lagos<\/a> Island General Hospital, Odan.<\/p>\n<p>Diaso died on Tuesday after an elevator she was in at the general hospital, fell from the 10th floor.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased was said to have been on her way to the ground floor to pick up a food delivery from a dispatch rider when the incident happened.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My heart is heavy \ud83d\udc94<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/justiceforVwaere?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#justiceforVwaere<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GeneralhospitalOdan?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GeneralhospitalOdan<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gbZmBRaieE\">pic.twitter.com\/gbZmBRaieE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; lase_moye (@LaseMoye) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LaseMoye\/status\/1686740303271587841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 2, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Moye, who also works at the hospital, said she was standing in front of the elevator and pressed the open button but didn\u2019t enter because she was on a video call.<\/p>\n<p>She said it wasn\u2019t long after that when she heard a big crash to the floor which made the dispatch rider who brought food for Diaso to run out of the building.<\/p>\n<p>The doctor said someone then raised the alarm that Vwaere was in the elevator, adding that they immediately began seeking help to bring her out of the elevator.<\/p>\n<p>She said the sight of the deceased in the crashed elevators was gory and grotesque, with the deceased wallowing in excruciating pain.<\/p>\n<p>Moye disclosed that the deceased was nestled between the ground floor and the elevator engine which hanged precariously over her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey tried to use rods to open it, to be sure it wasn\u2019t a joke. They finally opened it and the sight was gruesome. Muffled sounds of excruciating pain and agony became apparent,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer forehead had a horizontal cut, her mouth had another one and she had raccoon eyes. She was lying in between the base of the elevator and the ground floor with the engine hanging over her head which meant any miscalculation in movement, she\u2019ll be crushed to instant death!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was literally sandwiched in between the hanging engine and below the ground floor with blood on broken glasses and fractured limbs. It\u2019s not a sight to describe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018HELP CAME AFTER 40 MINUTES\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The deceased\u2019s colleague said engineers were called to dismantle the elevator, noting that it took almost 40 minutes for them to arrive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember telling her to relax that help is coming, she said \u201cDon\u2019t tell me to relax, tell them to get me out of here\u201d. We eventually got her out and she kept saying she thinks she\u2019ll die,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmergency care was almost zero and inside a hospital for that matter. There was no blood in the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was eventually wheeled out but she was already weak and kept saying \u201dI don\u2019t want to die\u201d. They commenced CPR and the finality of it all happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moye explained that the elevator has been a source of concern to the doctors for years but complaints were never attended to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember the last time we complained they said we should manage that in their time they were sleeping in call rooms during their horsemanship days and we are lucky we have water, lift and rooms to live in and we aren\u2019t grateful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like we are asking for too much?
