{"id":282280,"date":"2023-08-04T19:19:31","date_gmt":"2023-08-04T18:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=282280"},"modified":"2023-08-04T19:19:31","modified_gmt":"2023-08-04T18:19:31","slug":"increase-in-fuel-price-pushed-me-into-armed-robbery-says-lagos-bolt-driver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/04\/increase-in-fuel-price-pushed-me-into-armed-robbery-says-lagos-bolt-driver\/","title":{"rendered":"Increase in fuel price pushed me into armed robbery, says Lagos Bolt driver"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Adeniran, 29, said he resorted to armed robbery and crime due to the hike in fuel price which is occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Adeniran disclosed that the subsidy removal on petrol crippled his business<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>One Jeremiah Adeniran, a Bolt driver, has been apprehended for allegedly robbing some of his passengers, the police in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/03\/court-sends-lagos-man-to-prison-for-raping-3-year-old-girl\/\">Lagos<\/a> have said.<\/p>\n<p>Adeniran, 29, said he resorted to armed robbery and crime due to the hike in fuel price which is occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy in May.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during an interview with journalists on Friday in Ikeja, Adeniran said the subsidy removal on petrol crippled his business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore, I could do 15 trips a day, but after the rise in fuel prices, my business was no longer moving as I wanted, so I ventured into robbery,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the suspect, his two other accomplices always stayed on the road to carry out the robbery.<\/p>\n<p>Adeniran, who claimed that he had only robbed his passengers on three occasions since he started last month, said he was arrested on Saturday when one of the victims sighted him and raised an alarm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Saturday morning, I entered a shop, and I saw the lady I picked up and robbed a day before. She instantly recognised me because I was not putting on a nose mask.
