{"id":282332,"date":"2023-08-05T10:57:35","date_gmt":"2023-08-05T09:57:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=282332"},"modified":"2023-08-05T10:57:35","modified_gmt":"2023-08-05T09:57:35","slug":"installer-of-lagos-hospital-elevator-that-killed-medical-doctor-arrested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/05\/installer-of-lagos-hospital-elevator-that-killed-medical-doctor-arrested\/","title":{"rendered":"Installer of Lagos hospital elevator that killed medical doctor arrested"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Lagos state government panel to submit its initial findings today<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Installer arrested to ensure his availability when the panel needs him for further questioning, official says<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Lagos state government has said the contractor that installed the elevator that killed a medical doctor at Lagos Island General Hospital has been arrested.<\/p>\n<p>Within Nigeria had reported that the elevator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/02\/female-doctor-dies-in-lagos-hospital-elevator-two-weeks-before-completing-housemanship\/\">plunged from the 10th floor<\/a> of the hospital building on Tuesday and caused the death of Vwaere Diaso, the medical doctor undergoing housemanship.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased was said to be inside the elevator on her way to the ground floor to pick up a food delivery from a dispatch rider when the mishap occurred.<\/p>\n<p>The elevator was said to have been previously faulty, and staff had complained about it.<\/p>\n<p>The incident elicited uproar on and beyond social media and the Lagos government instituted a panel to investigate the elevator accident.<\/p>\n<p>The panel established by the Lagos state government to probe the elevator accident is expected to submit its initial findings today.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Friday, Olumide Sogunle, permanent secretary, Lagos ministry of information and strategy, said the installer of the elevator has been handed over to the police for questioning.<\/p>\n<p>Sogunle said the arrest is to ensure his availability when the panel needs him for further questioning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe panel met with the facility manager, personnel of LASIAMA, and the management of General Hospital, Lagos. The panel also met with the lift installer and the representatives of the company that installed the elevator,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe panel also invited a lift expert to the accident scene to look at the lift and give a preliminary opinion. Other experts would now take the elevator out for a thorough mechanical and electrical examination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of the panel\u2019s activities from the first day when they interviewed the lift installer, they handed him over to the Police for questioning and further interrogation. This is to ensure that the installer will always be available if the panel needs him for further questions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSix house officers and representatives of the medical associations were appointed as witnesses. Representatives of the house officers and medical associations were allowed to be part of the panel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe panel was given 48 hours to conclude action and so it will be submitting a report of their initial findings on Saturday.
