Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has praised the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, for dismissing the Action Alliance&#8217;s (AA) lawsuit challenging his election.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that on Tuesday, the Tribunal rendered an extraordinary decision in Kalu&#8217;s favour over the petition submitted by the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the seat of Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State in the February 25, 2023 election.<\/p>\n<p>Chinasa also asked the three-member tribunal, presided over by Justice Samson Paul Gang, to rule Kalu ineligible for the election because of an alleged name-related contradiction.<\/p>\n<p>The Tribunal ruled that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/11\/reps-ll-provide-legal-framework-to-boost-direct-foreign-investments-kalu\/\">Kalu<\/a> followed due process to validate his name, saying the petition was unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p>Also, in quick succession, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/21\/tribunal-reserves-judgment-in-kano-guber-election-petition\/\">Tribunal<\/a> on Thursday struck out the petition filed by AA against Kalu\u2019s election as member of the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that Igbokwe recently distanced himself from the suit, saying he never filed or authoritised anyone to initiate any legal action against Kalu.<\/p>\n<p>The AA candidate further said he was impersonated and subsequently petitioned the Police and the Department of State Service (DSS) over the matter.<\/p>\n<p>A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Deputy Speaker, Levinus Nwabughiogu, on Thursday night, said in a phone call to the office of the deputy speaker shortly after the ruling, Igbokwe said he was happy the matter was dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>The statement quoted Igbokwe as saying that: \u201cI made a move and that\u2019s what I will call destiny move. When it is time for God to bless you or make you to know some things you don\u2019t know, because you must crawl before you walk, you must work with a leader that has vision. Rt. Hon. Benjamin has really done well for Bende people. So, I am happy that I noticed what happened on time and came out and said that I am not the one that filed that suit. I didn\u2019t even take him to court. So, I am surprised that such a thing happened there. We thank God. God had to use the lawyers and the lawyers to have a very good judgement today. That\u2019s why I am very happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Igbokwe\u2019s lawyer in the case, Barrister Lawrence Ugochukwu Nwokocha, said the court agreed with their position in the sense that his client didn\u2019t file any matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court agreed with our position in the sense that we did not authorize anybody to file any petition on behalf of Ifeanyi. He was present in court. The court in their ruling said they were satisfied with the proper identity of the person of Ifeanyi. In summary, the court granted our prayer to withdraw the suit and strike out and dismiss the petition entirely. So, for now, there is no case from AA or Ifeanyi Igbokwe as it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In his reaction contained in the same statement by his CPS, the deputy speaker welcomed the tribunal\u2019s ruling, saying he was impressed that Igbokwe took the decision to accept the verdict of the people at the polls, moreso, the fact that the candidate recognized that the action against him was borne out of mischief.<\/p>\n<p>He saluted Igbokwe for his courage and thanked the Judiciary for granting his prayers to withdraw the matter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The AA
