{"id":285757,"date":"2023-08-26T13:19:25","date_gmt":"2023-08-26T12:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=285757"},"modified":"2023-08-26T13:19:25","modified_gmt":"2023-08-26T12:19:25","slug":"niger-junta-has-no-authority-to-expel-ambassador-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/26\/niger-junta-has-no-authority-to-expel-ambassador-france\/","title":{"rendered":"Niger junta has no authority to expel ambassador \u2013 France"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>France rejects Niger junta&#8217;s authority to expel its ambassador, emphasizes legitimacy from elected Nigerien authorities<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>ECOWAS denies claims of being controlled by foreign powers, underscores adherence to community principles and regulations<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>France has stated that the Niger junta lacks the authority to expel France&#8217;s ambassador, Sylvain Itte.<\/p>\n<p>The Niger military gave Ltte 48 hours to leave the country after he refused an invitation to meet with the junta&#8217;s appointed foreign minister.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Foreign Ministry, the French government&#8217;s actions are &#8220;contrary to the interests of Niger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>But France said;<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Niger\u2019s &#8220;putschists have no authority\u201d to expel its ambassador in Niamey, as quoted by Deutsche Welle.<\/p>\n<p>The putschists do not have the authority to make this request, the ambassador\u2019s approval coming solely from the legitimate elected Nigerien authorities,\u201d Paris said, adding: We are constantly evaluating the security and operating conditions of our embassy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron demanded the release of Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum, who was detained on July 26, 2023 in a military coup led by Abdourahamane Tchiani, the former commander of Niger&#8217;s presidential guard.<\/p>\n<p>Macron also called for restoring democratic order in Niger, a former French colony whose elected government was deposed in a July military coup.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"jeg_post_title\">We Are Not Being Teleguided By Foreign Powers \u2013 ECOWAS<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/26\/niger-crisis-we-are-not-being-teleguided-by-foreign-powers-ecowas\/\">Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)<\/a> has refuted claims that the regional bloc was remotely controlled by foreign powers in order to attack Niger Republic.<\/p>\n<p>The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Alieu Touray, announced this on Friday during a press conference in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger Republic was deposed on July 26 in a military coup led by Abdourahamane Tchiani, the former commander of Niger\u2019s presidential guard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/11\/fg-covid-test-fee-fixed-at-50-for-all-ecowas-nationals\/\">ECOWAS<\/a>\u00a0condemned the action and urged the junta to hand over power to the democratically elected president.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" data-setdir=\"false\">\n<blockquote>\n<div>Let me reiterate that fifth columnists have unfortunately been misrepresenting our decisions and actions, deriding regional authorities as being tele-guided by foreign powers with nefarious intentions.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Let me remind everyone that ECOWAS is a community of rules and regulations, norms, and values.
