{"id":287058,"date":"2023-09-03T19:37:24","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T18:37:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=287058"},"modified":"2023-09-03T19:37:24","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T18:37:24","slug":"falana-asks-dss-to-release-detained-ogun-lga-chair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/03\/falana-asks-dss-to-release-detained-ogun-lga-chair\/","title":{"rendered":"Falana Asks DSS To Release Detained Ogun LGA Chair"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Adedayo, who accused Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting statutory Federal Allocation meant for local governments in the last two years, was detained by the DSS<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Falana cited similar circumstances where past governors took people to court for libel<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Human Rights Lawyer, Mr Femi Falana has advised the Department of the State Service, DSS to release the Chairman of the Ijebu East Local Government, Ogun State, Mr. Wale Adedayo from custody.<\/p>\n<p>Falana made the appeal in a statement made available to <a href=\"http:\/\/withinnigeria.com\"><strong>WITHIN NIGERIA<\/strong><\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>He advised the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/03\/19\/just-in-dapo-abiodun-coasting-to-victory-clears-11-lgs\/\">Ogun state governor Mr. Dapo Abiodun<\/a> to sue for libel if he is dissatisfied with the accusations leveled against him by Adedayo.<\/p>\n<p>His words: \u201cLast week, the Chairman of the Ijebu East Local Government, Ogun State, Mr. Wale Adedayo accused the State Governor, Mr. Dapo Abiodun of diverting the statutory allocations of the 20 local governments in the State. Shortly thereafter, the Council boss was invited by the Ogun State Command of the State Security Service (SSS). However, when he turned up for the invitation on 1st September 2023, he was asked to respond to the petition submitted to the Command by the State Government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the said petition, it was alleged that Mr. Adedayo had instigated widespread acts of public disturbance and chaos in Ijebu East Local Government. Even though the embattled Council boss denied the allegation of instigating acts of public disturbance, the State Security Service has decided to detain him due to his refusal to withdraw the allegation levelled against Governor Abiodun<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though the Ogun State Government has denied the allegation of funds diversion, Governor Abiodun is advised to sue Mr. Wale Adedayo for libel in the Ogun State High Court. In similar circumstances, two of his predecessors, the late Governor Olabisi Onabanjo had sued the National Concord newspaper for libel in the Ogun State High Court in 1981 while Governor Segun Osoba sued the Punch Newspaper for defamation of character in the Ogun State High Court in 2001. Both Governors won the libel suits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving regards to the facts and circumstances of this particular case, I am compelled to request the Ogun State Command of the SSS to release Mr.
