{"id":287966,"date":"2023-09-09T07:45:44","date_gmt":"2023-09-09T06:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=287966"},"modified":"2023-09-09T07:45:44","modified_gmt":"2023-09-09T06:45:44","slug":"customs-intercept-petrol-rice-other-items-worth-n1-8-billion-intercepted-in-seme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/09\/customs-intercept-petrol-rice-other-items-worth-n1-8-billion-intercepted-in-seme\/","title":{"rendered":"Customs intercept petrol, rice, other items worth N1.8 billion intercepted in Seme"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Breaking down the seizures, the controller specified that they encompassed 9,500 bags of 50kg rice, equivalent to 16 trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice, with a DPV estimated at N312.2 million<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Other seized items included 13,835 units of 30-liter jerry cans, equivalent to 415,050 liters or 13 petroleum tankers, with a DPV of N738,276,461<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme area command has reported the interception of various confiscated items with a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) amounting to N1.8 billion between January 23 and September 8.<\/p>\n<p>The Customs Area Comptroller, Dera Nandi, disclosed these seizures during a press briefing in Seme on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Breaking down the figures, the controller specified that the haul comprises 9,500 bags of 50kg rice, equivalent to 16 trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice, with a DPV estimated at N312.2 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOthers are 13, 835 x 30 litres jerry cans equivalent to 415,050 litres or 13 petroleum tankers with DPV of N738,276,461.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also seized 15,389 of general merchandise goods.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn hard drugs, we seized 41 parcels of cannabis sativa, 4,900 tablets 225mg of Tramadol Tamol-X, 3,600 tablets 225mg Tramadol Royal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The controller said the command also seized 157 tablets of Heineken ecstasy and 864 packs of cigarettes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the same vein, officers and men of the command, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted 1,364 (30) litres jerrycans of petrol, equivalent to forty thousand eight hundred (40,800) litres, over one tanker load.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is with a DPV of N24,663,355 only, at the early hours of Sept. 8, along the Badagry Creek.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe duty paid value for items seized for the period Jan. 23 to Sept. 8, is N1,827,362,619.00,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Nandi said that the revenue target for the command for the year 2023 was N1,960,000,000 only.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs at this morning of Sept. 8, the command has collected N1,904,459,390.77 only.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis represents 97.2% of N1,960,000,000 allotted target for the year 2023,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The controller said that in the period under review for year 2022, the revenue was N885,543,098.11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe implication is that the command revenue profile witnessed a tremendous increase of N1,018,916,292. 33 (51.98%).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a result of painstaking efforts made by the leadership of the command in partnership with our stakeholders to ensure compliance with our revenue generation agenda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the area of anti-smuggling operation, you are already conversant with our past headline seizures of fake six million U.S. dollars equivalent to N2.7bn,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that in line with NCS\u2019 dictate of encouraging its personnel, the officers of the command that were involved in the seizures of fake $6,000,000, 15 fake international passports and 10 Driver\u2019s licences, and donkey skins in January 2023 had been commended by the Ag.
