{"id":289150,"date":"2023-09-16T11:22:11","date_gmt":"2023-09-16T10:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=289150"},"modified":"2023-09-16T11:23:06","modified_gmt":"2023-09-16T10:23:06","slug":"why-obasanjos-govt-was-most-successful-in-economic-growth-job-creation-el-rufai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/16\/why-obasanjos-govt-was-most-successful-in-economic-growth-job-creation-el-rufai\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Obasanjo\u2019s govt was most successful in economic growth, job creation \u2013 El-Rufai"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>Says Nigeria\u2019s fiscal health was at its best in 2007<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, has said the second term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was the \u201cmost successful\u201d in terms of economic growth, job creation, and inflation rate in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>El-Rufai, the immediate past Governor of Kaduna, said this on Friday during a session at the Africa In the World conference in Stellenbosch, South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at Nigeria\u2019s economic trajectory, the most successful four to five-year period of economic growth, job creation, and reduced inflation was the period of the second term of President Obasanjo in 2003 to 2007, when for the first time, the country went back into proper integrated planning and we also got lucky,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, oil prices began to rise during this period but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/11\/youve-proved-critics-wrong-obasanjo-tells-adeleke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Obasanjo<\/a> government did not waste the windfall.<\/p>\n<p>El-Rufai said Nigeria\u2019s fiscal health was at its best in 2007, such that when the global financial crisis took place in 2008, the country did not feel it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing was felt in Nigeria because Nigeria had a big savings account,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Nigeria had huge reserves then and that the government was able to absorb the shock without any internal problems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Says Nigeria\u2019s fiscal health was at its best in 2007 A former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, has said the second term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was the \u201cmost successful\u201d in terms of economic growth, job creation, and inflation rate in Nigeria.
