{"id":290245,"date":"2023-09-23T10:48:23","date_gmt":"2023-09-23T09:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=290245"},"modified":"2023-09-23T10:48:23","modified_gmt":"2023-09-23T09:48:23","slug":"suspect-in-custody-for-injecting-mohbad-not-registered-nurse-nannm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/23\/suspect-in-custody-for-injecting-mohbad-not-registered-nurse-nannm\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspect in custody for injecting MohBad not registered nurse \u2013 NANNM"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Mohbad\u2019s father, Joseph Aloba, on September 14 claimed that the singer passed away after receiving an injection administered by an auxiliary nurse<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>NANNM condoles with Mohbad&#8217;s family<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lagos State Council of The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) said the suspect reportedly arrested for injecting the late musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka MohBad is not a registered nurse.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement signed by Lagos State Secretary of NANNM Toba Odumosu.<\/p>\n<p>The association also warned members of the media to confirm the qualifications and professional status of individuals before brandishing them as healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n<p>It would be recalled that 27-year-old singer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/21\/breaking-police-exhume-mohbads-corpse-nurse-arrested\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MohBad<\/a> died on September 12.<\/p>\n<p>Mohbad\u2019s father, Joseph Aloba, on September 14 claimed that the singer passed away after receiving an injection administered by an auxiliary nurse.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cAccording to what I heard from people, I do not believe in that. The only thing I can think of is maybe this auxiliary nurse that used to treat people which is a very bad idea. I do not know the kind of level the woman is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said they called her to give him an injection and that is a very bad idea and that injection can result in any length. He had wounds but I do not know the kind of wounds he had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Police on Thursday exhumed MobBad\u2019s corpse for autopsy vowing investigations into his death will be thorough.<\/p>\n<p>While sharing its condolences to the family of the deceased, the Lagos State Council of NANNM emphasised the importance of professionalism in reporting and conducting the ongoing investigation into the controversial circumstances surrounding Mohbad\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Lagos State Council, expresses its deepest condolences to the family and associates of the late musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we mourn his tragic passing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe fully support the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and urge the relevant authorities to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, we must stress the importance of professionalism in reporting and conducting this investigation. NANNM is closely monitoring the situation with keen interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur preliminary investigations indicate that the individual reportedly taken into custody by the police for providing care to Mohbad is not a registered Nurse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe emphasise the critical need to verify the qualifications and professional status of individuals before labelling them as healthcare professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The council said it was regrettable that Nigeria\u2019s healthcare system faces significant regulatory challenges, leading to the presence of unqualified individuals performing medical roles they are not trained for.<\/p>\n<p>In Nigeria, to be recognised as a Nurse, one must complete a rigorous five-year Bachelor of Nursing Science programme at a university, followed by an additional year of internship.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, one can undergo training at an accredited School\/College of Nursing and become registered and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish to clarify that the term \u2018Auxiliary Nurse\u2019 has no place within Nigeria\u2019s healthcare system or its laws. An individual is either a qualified Nurse or an unqualified individual performing tasks beyond their competence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurthermore, we call on the investigating authorities and the media to exercise caution and accuracy in their reporting during this investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not tolerate any misrepresentation of Nurses and the Nursing profession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe demand that all media outlets that inaccurately reported the arrest of a Nurse take immediate corrective action to rectify their stories,\u201d the body
