{"id":290403,"date":"2023-09-24T16:20:30","date_gmt":"2023-09-24T15:20:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=290403"},"modified":"2023-09-24T16:20:30","modified_gmt":"2023-09-24T15:20:30","slug":"delta-man-takes-hospital-to-court-for-killing-wife-after-leaving-cotton-wool-in-abdomen-after-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/24\/delta-man-takes-hospital-to-court-for-killing-wife-after-leaving-cotton-wool-in-abdomen-after-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Delta man takes hospital to court for killing wife after leaving cotton wool in abdomen after surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He stated that the medical team re-arranged her intestines, explaining the issues as discovered by the team as \u201cattempted appendectomy\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><strong>Mr Egede stated that after the operation his wife was wheeled to the private ward for close observation, noting that instead of improving, she started rapid deterioration, as her abdomen began to swell, and she could not gas or stool for over 14 days<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Eku Baptist\/General Hospital, Delta State, its Managing Director, the team of doctors, and the state government, among others, are facing legal action in the Delta State High Court.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit alleges that their professional negligence resulted in the death of a 33-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/09\/how-woman-lost-her-pregnancy-after-cops-slapped-pushed-hit-me-with-gun-butt-in-rivers\/\">woman<\/a> named Mrs. Anesther Egede.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Festus Godson Egede is the claimant in the case, and the defendants include Eku Baptist\/General Hospital, the Delta state government, the Managing Director of Eku Baptist\/General Hospital, Dr. Totibo, among others.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mr. Egede, Dr. Totibo allegedly left cotton wool inside his wife&#8217;s abdomen after surgery, which led to her death.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cMy wife Mrs. Egede Anesther was having pain in her abdomen and we went to Catholic Hospital Obiaruku, where she was admitted and a scan of her abdomen was duly recommended by the Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The above hospital recommended a scan and was conducted on her, whereof it was discovered that she had appendicitis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said the appendicitis was not up to 7.6% as discovered and as such not up to the level for her to need the minor appendicitis operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was discharged from the Catholic Hospital after two days of admission, the medical personnel who attended to her told us that the appendicitis was not ripe for operation and that the same should be managed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When she got home, the pain persisted, then I took her to Eku Baptist\/General Hospital for further examination of the already established appendicitis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the General Hospital, we met a medical doctor by the name of Dr. Ebom Totibo who once again directed that another scan be conducted on her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Totibo also recommended the Center (P. Wave Scan, Delta State) where the scan was conducted, and after Dr. Totibo conducted further physical examination on my wife, he opined that her appendicitis was due and directed that we should return the next day for the surgical operation to remove the appendicitis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After the operation, the head of the team Dr. Ebom Totibo told me that my late wife was too fat and as a result of that, her intestines covered appendicitis, and that the appendicitis was not removed\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further stated that instead, the medical team re-arranged her intestines, explaining the issues as discovered by the team as \u201cattempted appendectomy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Egede stated that after the operation his wife was wheeled to the private ward for close observation, noting that instead of improving, she started rapid deterioration, as her abdomen began to swell, and she could not gas or stool for over 14 days.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of the medical doctors on duty recommended that an MRI scan be conducted on her to clearly ascertain the position of the surgical operation conducted on her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey also recommended an MRI scan which was conducted on her at Lily Hospital Benin City, Edo State, and the result analysed by a plethora of specialists, showed that Dr. Ebom Totibo and his team left a huge cotton wool on my wife\u2019s abdomen after the surgical operation, which has led to her death\u201d he added<\/p>\n<p>The family of the deceased woman had previously lodged a complaint against the hospital for negligence. The husband of the deceased mentioned that he had a meeting with the Delta State Hospital Management Board regarding his complaint.<\/p>\n<p>When asked for a comment, the Managing Director of Eku Hospital, Dr. Mrs. Etaghene Harietta, declined to speak on the matter and referred the inquiry to the health ministry in Asaba, stating that they are responsible for overseeing the hospital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He stated that the medical team re-arranged her intestines, explaining the issues as discovered by the team as \u201cattempted appendectomy\u201d.
