{"id":290730,"date":"2023-09-26T15:40:31","date_gmt":"2023-09-26T14:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=290730"},"modified":"2023-09-26T15:40:31","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T14:40:31","slug":"university-lecturer-filmed-assaulting-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/26\/university-lecturer-filmed-assaulting-students\/","title":{"rendered":"University lecturer filmed assaulting students"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Lecturer filmed flogging a group of students<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Management appealed to the students and general public to be calm as justice would be served<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Says investigation had commenced already<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A man said to be a lecturer at the University of Calabar, Cross River State, South-south Nigeria, has been filmed flogging a group of students.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Real_DanBold\/status\/1705931566566838662?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video clip<\/a><\/strong> of the incident is being shared on X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n<p>The clip showed the unidentified man using what looked like a belt to randomly flog a handful of students who had gathered along a passage in a storey-building on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/18\/alleged-sexual-harassment-unical-panel-lacks-locus-standi-to-probe-me-prof-ndifon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">campus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There were shouts and booing from the students, following the man\u2019s action.<\/p>\n<p>Though it could not be instantly established when the incident happened and what led to it.<\/p>\n<p>A report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), however, said the students were of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Biological Sciences, and that they were waiting for their practical classes to begin before the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Florence Obi, has condemned the assault on the students, NAN reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough I am currently on an official function outside the state, my attention has been drawn to the said clip,\u201d the NAN report quoted Mrs Obi, a professor, as saying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe said incident is unprofessional and against the university\u2019s rules of engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The vice-chancellor said top officials of the university, including its chief security officer, were already looking into the incident.<\/p>\n<p>She appealed to the students and general public to be calm as justice would be served, adding that investigation had commenced already.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lecturer filmed flogging a group of students Management appealed to the students and general public to be calm as justice would be served Says investigation had commenced already A man said to be a lecturer at the University of Calabar, Cross River State, South-south Nigeria, has been filmed flogging a group of students.
