{"id":291020,"date":"2023-09-28T14:17:57","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T13:17:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=291020"},"modified":"2023-09-28T14:17:57","modified_gmt":"2023-09-28T13:17:57","slug":"imo-governorship-people-campaigning-against-me-because-i-have-one-arm-lp-candidate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/28\/imo-governorship-people-campaigning-against-me-because-i-have-one-arm-lp-candidate\/","title":{"rendered":"Imo Governorship: People Campaigning Against Me Because I Have One Arm \u2013 LP Candidate"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Senator Athan Achonu, Imo State Labour Party governorship candidate, alleges that some opposition members use his physical disability against him<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>He highlights instances of manipulation and misinformation surrounding his candidacy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Senator Athan Achonu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/08\/22\/imo-state-obi-to-flag-off-lp-guber-campaign\/\">Imo State<\/a>, has stated that some members of the state&#8217;s opposition are using his physical disability to campaign against him ahead of the governorship election in November.<\/p>\n<p>He said this during an interview with ARISE TV about the Labour Party in the state ahead of the November election.<\/p>\n<p>Imo is currently in crisis after the party&#8217;s National Working Committee, led by Julius Abure, insisted that Achonu is the genuine governorship candidate recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n<p>However, Achonu was rejected as the party&#8217;s candidate by another faction led by Lamide Apapa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responding to the development, Achonu said;<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Let me give you a perfect example of this scam. When they went to the Appeal Court, it declined, so we proceeded to the Supreme Court to challenge that judgement. You know what happened? The Appeal Court said why were we bothering? That the judgement was even in our favour. That we shouldn\u2019t bother because the case had been dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>So what did we do? We went and withdrew the case from the Supreme Court. Immediately we withdrew the case, they went to town that Supreme Court had ruled so and so.<\/p>\n<p>The beneficiary of all these crises and factions in the Labour Party will be the APC government in power. Because people are already saying if we vote for the one-arm General (that\u2019s what they call me), they will take away the thing from him in the Supreme Court, so we don\u2019t want to waste our votes.<\/p>\n<p>So that\u2019s just the situation they want to create. They are stimulating the belief that just because I have one arm, I shouldn\u2019t be voted for.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Athan Achonu, Imo State
