{"id":29304,"date":"2021-05-04T04:18:17","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T03:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=29304"},"modified":"2021-05-04T04:18:17","modified_gmt":"2021-05-04T03:18:17","slug":"journalist-reveals-why-he-returned-missing-3000-to-owner-in-gombe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/04\/journalist-reveals-why-he-returned-missing-3000-to-owner-in-gombe\/","title":{"rendered":"Journalist reveals why he returned missing $3,000 to owner in Gombe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Nigerian journalist, Abdulkadir Shehu has revealed why he returned $3,000 he found on the road.<\/p>\n<p>Shehu, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/03\/journalist-who-exposed-governor-gandujes-alleged-bribe-video-flees-to-uk-amid-security-threats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">journalist<\/a> with Progress FM, a private radio station in Gombe, said he returned the $3,000 dollars he found along the road to its owner, because it would be wrong for him to claim it.<\/p>\n<p>Shehu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Monday, that as at the time he returned the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/28\/video-bank-customer-slumps-dies-in-port-harcourt-after-he-was-allegedly-denied-access-to-his-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">money<\/a>, he had less than N2000 on him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was really in dire need of money at the time because I had received a call from Kano that my son was sick and needed to be tested for kidney and liver diseases at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c They couldn\u2019t go ahead with the test because there was no money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy son is still under medical supervision, but I will try to get the N35,000 for the test on Tuesday,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Shehu stressed that poverty should not be an excuse for anyone to do what is wrong, adding that a person\u2019s honesty is better tested when faced with challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should always set an example for ourselves by being honest for the good of our society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shehu stated that he never thought of using the money for his personal needs, \u201cbecause it was not mine.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I touch the money, Allah will Judge me; in Islam, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, told us that whoever finds a missing thing in the city, must seek its owner for a year.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>On how he found the money, Shehu said: \u201cI was going to the office on Wednesday from my house around 7am when I saw an envelope on the road, I opened it and discovered some currencies in US dollars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put the envelope inside my bag and when I got to the office, I counted the content which was 3,000 dolars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told some of my colleagues but didn\u2019t disclose the amount and currency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I began to announce on the radio that whoever lost money along so so area, the money has been found and should call a particular mobile number.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe owner called, crying profusely, described the location he lost the money, what the money was rapped with, the total amount, and so on. So I handed over the money to him after a satisfactory explanation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shehu added that after the radio announcement, about 50 persons called in, claiming ownership of the money but non gave the correct figure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis to me showed that there is a problem of selfishness amongst some people.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Nigerian journalist, Abdulkadir Shehu has revealed why he returned $3,000 he found on the road.
