{"id":294468,"date":"2023-10-24T15:35:47","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T14:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=294468"},"modified":"2023-10-24T15:35:47","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T14:35:47","slug":"breaking-cac-uncovers-189-fake-companies-used-to-secure-land-allocations-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/10\/24\/breaking-cac-uncovers-189-fake-companies-used-to-secure-land-allocations-in-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: CAC Uncovers 189 Fake Companies Used To Secure Land Allocations In Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Magaji stated that the decision was made in response to a request from the Federal Capital Territory Administration to investigate the status of a non-existent firm requesting land allotment.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>The CAC head revealed that the cartel manipulated the land process, prioritizing their applications over current ones, thereby facilitating land fraud in the capital city.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>189 fictitious companies were found, according to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), to have been utilised to purchase property allocations in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/10\/21\/fcta-encourages-abuja-residents-to-plant-more-trees-in-climate-change-fight\/\">Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The statement was made on Tuesday, October 24, in Abuja during a press conference by the commission&#8217;s Registrar General, Hussaini Magaji.<\/p>\n<p>He asserted that after discovering the nonexistent company, he carried out additional research and discovered additional businesses.<\/p>\n<p>As per Magaji&#8217;s account, the Federal Capital Territory Administration requested that the status of a non-existent corporation that was demanding land allotment be checked, and that is how the finding came about.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cLet me use this opportunity to inform the public that one of the major milestones achieved so far since I assumed office, is our ability to bust a cartel or a link of individuals that are creating havoc for the commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis cartel creates companies through collaboration with some lawyers claiming to be accredited agents of the commission and staff of Abuja Geographical Information System to secure land allocations in the FCT and we only knew this crime after a complaint from the Federal Capital Territory Administration asking us to verify some applications made by some entities, which turned out to be non-existent on our system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the information available to us, I gave a directive on the issue and we have so far identified 189 fake companies used to secure land allocation in the FCT. We have also facilitated the arrest of two suspects.<\/p>\n<p>The CAC head explained their style of operation, saying the cartel manipulated the land process to give their applications for land allocation preference over current applications, facilitating land fraud in the capital city.<\/p>\n<p>He noted: \u201cThe nature of their crime is they create fake entities through connivance with some lawyers claiming to be accredited agents of the commission and staff of Abuja geographical information system and apply for land at the FCT, manoeuvring their ways to a priority application over existing application in other to take over lands and they have been quite successful before we discovered it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs of yesterday we arrested two suspects including a lawyer and we are interrogating them to get more information and clampdown on other members of this cartel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the course of our investigation and research, we found that the companies do not exist. And with the collaboration of security agents, we arrested a suspect and by arresting him, he has volunteered some information and from that, we have gotten a clue that something like this is happening and we are working hard to stop this menace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He stated that boosting the commission\u2019s financial base will allow it to achieve its goal of being a world-class commission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Magaji stated that the decision was made in response to a request from the Federal Capital Territory Administration to investigate the status of a non-existent firm requesting land allotment.
