{"id":295334,"date":"2023-10-31T15:57:39","date_gmt":"2023-10-31T14:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=295334"},"modified":"2023-10-31T15:57:39","modified_gmt":"2023-10-31T14:57:39","slug":"no-plans-to-change-naira-notes-cbn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/10\/31\/no-plans-to-change-naira-notes-cbn\/","title":{"rendered":"No plans to change naira notes \u2014 CBN"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>CBN urged Nigerians to ignore the widespread dissemination of a text message implying that the Bank is considering redenominating the nation&#8217;s legal tender in the coming year<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><strong>They have clarified that the contents of this message are misleading<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced that there are no intentions to redenominate or restructure the naira notes in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>This statement was released on Tuesday through a press release signed by the Director of Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin, and posted on the official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/10\/21\/cash-transfer-fg-disqualifies-nigerians-without-nin-bvn-cbn-begins-payment\/\">CBN<\/a> social media account.<\/p>\n<p>CBN urged Nigerians to ignore the widespread dissemination of a text message implying that the Bank is considering redenominating the nation&#8217;s legal tender in the coming year.<\/p>\n<p>They have clarified that the contents of this message are misleading.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are concerned that this narrative, which we had refuted before now, appears to be gaining traction with several debates on the implication of such a policy for the Nigerian economy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wish to reiterate that the contents of the message are misleading. The authors of the message, in their mischief, modified text eked from an old policy move by a previous CBN Governor in 2007 to make it appear recent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For the avoidance of doubt, there is currently no plan by the Bank to restructure and redenominate the naira.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, it added that while the bank may be considering reforms, \u201csuch are subject to laid down procedures in line with the provisions of the CBN Act, 2007.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The public is hereby advised to ignore the news report, as it is speculative and calculated to cause panic in the
